I’m Here to Win” — Emmanuel Sunday Targets European Move After Impressive ABS FC Debut

"I'm here to win" - Emmanuel Sunday
ABS Ilorin FC midfielder Emmanuel Sunday has expressed delight after delivering an impressive Man of the Match performance in the Saraki Boys' 1-0 victory over Sokoto United in their 2026/2027 Nigeria National League (NNL) opening fixture.
Sunday was influential in the heart of midfield, helping ABS Ilorin FC control proceedings and secure all three points at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, on Saturday.
The defensive midfielder, who was outstanding in breaking up opposition attacks, winning duels and protecting the backline, described the victory as a special moment, revealing that winning the opening fixture had been his priority from the moment he learned about the game.
"My target was to win because I'm here to win. I believe that in the next two years, I'll see myself playing in Europe," he said.
He also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent ABS Ilorin FC, acknowledging his coach for the confidence reposed in him and describing the opportunity to start as a privilege rather than an entitlement.
"I'm so happy to be part of ABS Ilorin FC and grateful to my coach for the opportunity. Getting a starting opportunity is a privilege, not a right. I'm thankful to God for the victory and the three points," he added.
Sunday further assured the club's supporters that his impressive display was only the beginning, promising to maintain his commitment and continue improving as the season progresses.
"I want our fans to expect more from me. I promise to keep improving and never let them down," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Jamiu Ismail emerged as the match-winner for ABS Ilorin FC, scoring in the 70th minute after coming on as a substitute to hand the Saraki Boys a winning start to their NNL campaign.
The victory gives Coach Festus Allen's side a positive start as they continue their quest for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
