Nigerian goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi is making headlines on the international stage after being included in Uganda’s plans ahead of the country’s upcoming international fixtures.
The 22-year-old shot-stopper has been identified by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) among players eligible to represent the Uganda Cranes through his Ugandan heritage. Osayi is eligible through his maternal grandmother, who was born in Kaberamaido, Uganda.
Osayi has built his career through Nigerian domestic football, featuring for clubs including Heartland FC, MFM FC, Doma United and Enugu Rangers, before making the move to Sweden. He currently plays for Assyriska FF, where he is listed as a goalkeeper in the club's current squad.
Standing at an imposing 1.98 metres, Osayi's height and goalkeeping profile have attracted attention as Uganda looks to strengthen its goalkeeping department. FUFA has described the recruitment initiative as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the national teams with eligible players from around the world.
His rise has been notable. After establishing himself in Nigerian football, Osayi moved abroad and impressed with Assyriska FF. The Swedish club previously extended his contract following a period in which he established himself as the club's first-choice goalkeeper.
Now, a new chapter awaits.
With Osayi among the players brought into the Uganda Cranes camp, attention will turn to whether the young goalkeeper can translate his club form onto the international stage and establish himself as a key figure in Uganda's goalkeeping department.
From Nigerian domestic football to Sweden and now the Uganda Cranes set-up, Kingdom Osayi's football journey continues to gather momentum.
