2026 ORUMOGEGE CUP: ORGANISERS RAISE THE BAR ON TALENT DISCOVERY, YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
Third edition set to deliver a bigger, better and more impactful grassroots football experience in Ogbomoso
OGBOMOSO — The organisers of the 2026 Orumogege Football Competition have reaffirmed their commitment to using the tournament as a strategic platform for grassroots talent discovery, youth empowerment, football development and community unity across Ogbomosoland.
Chairman of the Orumogege Sport Service, Amos Adewale Ado, made this known on Sunday during a press conference held at the Ogbomoso Recreation Club, ahead of the third edition of the competition.
Ado explained that the tournament, which was established to commemorate the installation anniversary of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III, Soun of Ogbomoso, has grown beyond a conventional football competition.
According to him, the Orumogege Cup has increasingly become an avenue through which young footballers can showcase their abilities, gain valuable competitive experience and attract the attention of scouts, professional clubs, academies and other football stakeholders.
He stressed that the 2026 edition would place greater emphasis on improving the quality, organisation and overall impact of the competition, noting that the ultimate objective extends beyond determining a trophy winner.
«“Our focus is not only on winning trophies but also on creating opportunities for young footballers to demonstrate their abilities and attract the attention of scouts, clubs, and other football stakeholders,” Ado stated.»
The chairman described football as a powerful instrument for youth development, saying the sport helps young people develop important qualities such as discipline, teamwork, leadership, commitment, resilience and perseverance.
He further described the competition as an investment in the future of Ogbomoso youths, expressing optimism that the tournament would create a pathway for promising footballers to move from the grassroots to higher levels of the game.
Ado also urged participating clubs and players to approach the competition with determination, discipline and respect for the rules of the game. He emphasised that the tournament should produce not only champions but also responsible young footballers capable of becoming worthy ambassadors of Ogbomosoland.
He assured participating teams, match officials and other stakeholders that the organising committee would uphold transparency, fairness, professionalism and discipline throughout the competition, while continuously working to deliver an event that meets a high standard.
The Orumogege Sport Service chairman expressed appreciation to the Soun of Ogbomoso for his vision and continued commitment to initiatives aimed at promoting youth development, unity and progress across Ogbomosoland.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Oyo State Government, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, sponsors, partners, football administrators, match officials, security agencies, medical personnel, the media and other stakeholders whose support has contributed to the growth and development of the competition.
Ado particularly appealed to members of the media to give the tournament adequate publicity, noting that sustained media coverage would play a significant role in exposing the participating talents and promoting the broader objectives of the competition.
With the organisers promising a “bigger, better and more impactful” third edition, expectations are high that the 2026 Orumogege Football Competition will further establish itself as an important grassroots football platform in Ogbomoso.
Beyond the trophies and competition, the tournament is expected to provide young footballers with an opportunity to be discovered, develop their abilities, build character and take important steps towards fulfilling their football ambitions.
The third edition of the competition is being organised as part of activities marking the third anniversary of Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye Orumogege III on the throne of Ogbomosoland.
As the countdown begins, the message is clear: the 2026 Orumogege Cup is not just about who lifts the trophy — it is about discovering the talents who could become the future stars of Nigerian football.
